On July 16th, 2024, a 10-month-old boy choked a piece of a wrapper from a soda bottle resulting in a partial obstruction. Protocol was followed but was unsuccessful. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its second use. The child’s mother describes the incident as follows:
“Thank you for an amazing product that definitely had an impact in saving my child’s life. Our baby got a hold of a soda bottle with a piece of the wrapper hanging off. He tried to eat it and proceeded to choke on it. This lasted about 2 minutes of him choking, vomiting, and trying to dislodge it. We kept the LifeVac close by just in case. It was able to dislodge it from his throat, however he did end up swallowing the plastic. It has been a couple of days since the incident and thankfully the soda wrapper has passed through his system without trouble. The day of the incident was very scary, especially at the moment when he was choking. This kid puts EVERYTHING in his mouth and as a parent, I try to keep a watchful eye, but this day I was preparing breakfast while he was playing in the living room. All it took was 1 minute of not paying attention, and he managed to grab the bottle off the side table that my husband left the day before. This would not normally have been a problem however; this wrapper had a piece hanging off it. Thankfully, he is very good now and I am more watchful of his surroundings.”
