On June 29th, 2024 a 4-year-old girl choked on a cantaloupe resulting in a total obstruction. Protocol was followed but was unsuccessful. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its first use. The child’s mother describes the incident as follows:
“Little girl was eating a piece of cantaloupe and began choking. Father picked her up telling her to spit it out, the little girl was gasping and trying to cough. He began administering back blows. I came in from outside and heard the commotion. I yelled to her father to hit her harder on the back. He had her leaning over the sink. I realized she was unable to move air at this time. I ran for the LifeVac which was in the laundry room next to the kitchen. Ran back to the kitchen and instructed the father to lay her on the counter. He laid her down, she was not moving air at the time but was still conscious. I applied the LifeVac and it was dislodged with one use! She immediately sat up, began crying and coughing, and her color improved. She was moving air and talking shortly after the fruit was dislodged.”
